Tournament points updated after Assessment 1

At this Assessment, we are going to try something different and try to give players more games, and also more meaningful games. I am aware that the afternoon session seems to be a bit of a let-down and hopefully the Assessment will remedy this. The downside of it is that we may have to use a few more tables so the courts may be narrower than usual and we will be using most of our allotted time. I would welcome your comments and suggestions at the end of the tournament. The draws are as follows; 40+ Round 1; D. Tait; bye. D. Szymcak v C. EllisB. Wright v Fiona Kinloch K. Dingwall v G. Ksiazek U. Petermann v S. Crawford D. deSilva v L. Stockdale I. McHarhg v S. Collins Round 2; 6 winners and D. Tait round robin for places 1-7, 6 losers round robin for places 8-13. 50+ Draw; Group 1; C. Green, T. Lawlor, D. Simpson Group 2; G. Campbell, B. Hunter, D. Paterson Group 3; C. Gerrard, P. Monteith, S. Thompson Group 4; M. McKay, M. Moran, A. Keith Group 5; K. McLean, N. Doherty, B. Irvine Group 6; P. Dowden, A. McIntyre, G. Waddell Group 7; R. McIntosh, J. Daniels, J. Foulds. Group 8; 7 winners for places 1-7 Group 9; 7 Second placed players for places 8-14 Group 10; Third placed players for places 15-21. 60+ Draw; C. Brown v D. Seller S. Houston v J. Kerr S. Crook v S. Adamson, G. Hunter v M. Bleasdale D. McDonald v R. Claxton, P. Aird v P. Duffy, P. Shaw v D. Gallagher, J. Anderson v S. Ormsby. Round 2; Winners play round robin for places 1-8 Seconds play for places 9-16 70+ Round Robin; R. Masterson, I. McLagan, R. Howe, P. Klemm, L. Powell, W. Stein. 75+ Round Robin; B. Davidson, D. Sinclair, D. McLaren, B, Sterling, P. Howarth, J. Fleming, B. Hills Over 70’s event; Group 1; Top 3 70+ v top 3 75+ Group 2; Bottom 3 70+ v bottom 4 of 75+ As you can see, there is a greater number of games scheduled, and I hope it is successful. Now all I need to do is sit down and plan the table allocations for the matches; shouldn’t take too long. If I don’t appear on Sunday,…………………….. Ian

****Scottish National League

The Scottish Vets played two teams in the 2016-17 competition. Scottish Vets A (Tam Lawlor (Capt.), Alan Whitton, Dariusz Szymczak, Brian Wright) competed in the 1st Division and finished in an excellent 4th place, winning 3, drawing 1 and losing three to the top three teams (Drum A, Murrayfield, North Ayrshire). Alan, Tam and Dariusz played in the first week, winning 1 and drawing 1. On the second weekend, Brian, Alan and Tam were outclassed by Drum A, Murrayfield and North Ayrshire A. Survival in the division depended on a good third weekend (1st April) and Brian, Tam and Alan played well to defeat both South Ayrshire (4-2) and Triangle A (Aberdeen juniors making up the core of the team) (4-2) to finish a healthy 4th (of 8) and maintain our place in the division.

Scottish Vets 2 played in the 3rd Division and with 2 wins and a crucial draw from 7 matches, finished 6th thus avoiding relegation. Good effort from the guys (Lance Stockdale (1 match), Richard Masterson, Ian Hislop, Andy McIntyre).
