Geoff strikes Silver in Budapest!
With one of his most impressive displays in his wide and varied table tennis career Geoff Salter secured a silver medal in the O70s singles event at 2019 European Veterans Championships (1- 6 July) Budapest, Hungary.
He began with a very efficient qualification from the group stage; three wins from three, including an excellent 3-1 win against a very strong looking Swedish player.
Round of 128: 3-0 against BODÓ, László (HUN) 11-4, 11-8, 11-8
Round of 64: 3-0 against ATLIHAN, Suphi (TUR) 11-6, 11-7, 11-4
Round of 32: 3-2 a terrific win, coming back from 2-1 down in games against NYBERG, Håkan (FIN) 11-3, 6-11, 9-11, 11-9, 13-11
Round of 16: 3-0 against KROON, Hans (SWE) 11-7, 11-9, 11-7
Quarters: 3-2 another close one against PAVLICEK, Rudolf (CZE) 11-7, 11-7, 7-11, 7-11, 11-9
Semis: 3-1 against FAFEK, Jiri (CZE) 11-7, 5-11, 11-9, 13-11
Final: 1-3 against RAMBERG, Niels (DEN) 9-11, 11-8, 7-11, 5-11
